The following steps are based on the Baofeng UV-5R V2+ model, but should apply to any UV-5R series Baofeng model.

 

Deleting a memory channel:

Saving a memory to a channel requires that the channel is empty to start with. If you do not have empty channels, follow the steps to delete the channel you wish to use to save the frequency into:
 
1: press [MENU]
2: use the up/down arrow or press 28 to jump to the DEL-CH menu item
3: press [MENU] and use the up/down keys to select the desired channel to be deleted.
4: press [MENU] to confirm/delete
5: press [EXIT]

 

Saving to a memory channel.

Programming the frequencies all the time is a tedious task. It is recommended to save the frequencies to a memory channel. Once saved, the frequency and its setup can be accessed by a channel number in Channel mode. (Press the VFO/MR to go switch between channel mode and frequency mode)

 

Saving simplex frequencies to a channel:
 
locate an empty memory channel. This can be done by going to menu item 27 MEM-CH. The channels currently having a memory have a CH- in front of their digits. If you do not have one, then you can delete an existing channel and use it.
 
1: press [MENU]
2: use the up/down arrow or press 27 to jump to the MEM-CH menu item
3: press [MENU] and use the up/down keys select the desired channel.
4: press [MENU] to confirm/save. This saves the receiving frequency. Repeat this step to save the transmitting frequency since it is the same in simplex communication.
5: press [EXIT]

 

Saving repeater frequencies to a channel:
 
Locate an empty memory channel. This can be done by going to menu item 27 MEM-CH. The channels currently having a memory have a CH- in front of their digits. If you do not have one, then you can delete an existing channel and use it.
 
1: press [MENU]
2: use the up/down arrow or press 27 to jump to the MEM-CH menu item
3: press [MENU] and use the up/down keys to select the desired channel.
4: press [MENU] to confirm/save. This saves the receiving frequency.
5: press [EXIT]
6: While in frequency mode, type in the transmitting frequency “MANUALLY”
7: while you have the transmitting frequency on display, press [MENU]
8: use the up/down arrow or press 27 to jump to the MEM-CH menu item
9: press [MENU] and use the up/down keys to select the same channel the receiving memory is saved into.
10: press [MENU] to confirm/save. This saves the transmitting frequency.
11: press [EXIT]
